BURN Launches a new biomass and LPG cooking appliances Plant in Kano
BURN manufacturing Limited, the primary manufacturer, distributor, and carbon project developer of clean cookstoves globally, has declared the opening of its inaugural assembly plant in Kano, Nigeria. This establishment will significantly enhance the availability of affordable clean cooking devices for households in the nation.
BURN has been present in the Nigerian market since 2018, retailing 450,000 highly efficient biomass and LPG cooking devices, impacting more than 23.1 million lives. The company has a workforce of over 700 individuals, with approximately 200 engaged in manufacturing and 500 in sales and distribution, half of whom are women.
The 3,700 m2 factory in Kano currently produces 40,000 cooking devices monthly, with the capability to increase production to 100,000 units per month. BURN aims to raise this number to 1 million units monthly by 2025.
Etulan Ikpoki, the Country Manager for Nigeria, stated: “We are pleased to announce this expansion, reaffirming our dedication to expanding our activities in Nigeria. By the end of the year, we will be manufacturing 100,000 units monthly to fulfill the growing demand for clean cooking solutions in the country.”
BURN utilizes carbon financing to make its clean cooking devices accessible to households throughout the continent by subsidizing stove costs by 60-100%. Over the past 18 months, the company has provided around $60 million in discounts through carbon credits, enabling families to acquire a $40 life-saving stove for $5. “To date, we have granted $15 million in discounts to Nigerian households through carbon credit financing,” Etulan added.
Since its establishment in 2011, BURN has produced and distributed over 4.5 million clean cookstoves, positively impacting the lives of approximately 25.1 million individuals and preventing around 21.7 million tons of CO2 emissions from entering the atmosphere.
BURN’s objective is to introduce its ECOA line of fuel-efficient devices, including biomass, LPG, ethanol, electric, and cookware, to every household in Nigeria.
