ICNL to operate Dry Port in Kaduna

Kaduna State has signed an MoU with Inland Containers Nigeria Limited (ICNL) to operate a dry port in Kaduna State. This was made known by the Managing Director of Inland Containers, Mr Ismail Yusuf, who said that project is meant to decongest the Lagos ports and generate revenue for the Federal and Kaduna State governments.

The dry port will commence almost immediately to offer some skeletal services while full operations will commence by year end and is expected to handle an average of 29,000 containers annually.

The Kaduna dry port will serve the dual purposes of destination port for importers in the North and Transit port for goods going to Niger Republic and other countries.

According to Mr. Yusuf, the dry port operators, ICNL, are discussing with Nigerian Railway Corporation on using the railways to move the containers. This will reduce cost and risks.
