Mara Phone launches the Mara Academy with free online course to advance blockchain adoption and financial literacy in Africa

Pan-African phone manufacturer Mara Group has launched a free educational online course with the aim to boost blockchain adoption and digital finance literacy in Africa.

The Mara Academy is designed and built to provide Africa-centric content. It is accessible to anyone and gives lifetime aces to courses, resources and capstone projects.

“The education program caters for anyone, anywhere, and at any time. Through an innovative mix of delivery methods, partnerships, and customisable content, we hope to meet people where they are and create communities of like-minded people not only involved in digital finance but cultivating shared interests,” Kate Kallot, the co-founder and chief impact officer at Mara said.

The program will go a long way in opening up the digital literacy learning space. It’s estimated that 40 per cent of Africans have never purchased digital assets, citing a lack of trust, uncertainty about prices or insufficient information on how to buy and hold these digital assets.

“The prioritization of financial literacy in Africa is important and The Mara Academy offers quality education, resources and opportunities to enable them to gain the requisite skills needed to diversify our future workforce,”  Chi Nnadi, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer at Mara said.

Learners will also gain skills in budgeting, setting financial goals, investing and wealth management using digital tools. There are three content components including blockchain, developers and digital financial literacy.

According to Gemini’s 2022 Global State of Crypto, education is cited as the most significant global barrier to acquiring digital assets. The course is designed to reinvigorate the adoption of digital skills across the continent.
