NIRA CONDUCTS THE 2018 NiRA BLOGGERS SUMMIT IN LAGOS
The Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA) organized a successful Bloggers summit, which is the first of its kind. It was well attended by bloggers (professionals and rookies), media professionals, NiRA Accredited Registrars and many other stakeholders. The summit held on Thursday October 18, 2016 at NiRA Office Complex, Funsho Williams Avenue, Iponri, Surulere, Lagos.
In his opening address Revd. Sunday Folayan, the President of NiRA, said that the 2018 NiRA Bloggers summit was organized to promote responsible blogging, stimulate the industry by developing and publishing relevant content, create opportunities/jobs and command respect from the larger society. He hoped that the summit would lead to increased networking, increase in the uptake of .ng, reduction in fake news and last but not the least trust in the .ng brand.
The summit included educational sessions, influencer interactions, sessions on monetizing blogs, working with brands as a senior influencer and discussions on other topical issues such as legal impact of online payment, blogging about the society and individuals, etc.
One of the speakers at the event, Mr. James Nwabueze who is the Business Development Executive for TFhost.ng, a leading Nigeria website hosting company in Abuja gave a case on why Nigerians should use .ng domains and host locally. He further stated that Nigerians who buy foreign domains or host abroad are involved in capital flight.
Other notable speakers at the summit included Bayo Olupohunda, the editor-in-chief of the online news site, NAIJ, who spoke on “Powerful Content Creation”, Mr. Okemini Otum, Founder of Rabbington Media, who spoke on “The Business of Blogging”, Mr. Ben Bassey, the Senior Editor, Operations at Pulse Nigeria who spoke on social media marketing and Mr. Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata, Presenter at Channels Television who spoke on “Starting a blog”.
