Stock market capitalisation losses 0.32% as major indexes close in the red

  • The Nigerian stock market continued its bearish sentiment for the fourth consecutive week, as the NGX All Share Index (ASI) declined by 2.24% to close at 143,722.62 points. Market capitalisation declined by 2.23% to close at N91.41trn. In today’s session, the NGX ASI and market capitalisation declined by 0.32%. This sentiment brought the year-to-date (YTD) return down to 39.64% from 40.09% in the previous session.
  • The negative sentiment was driven by profit taking in stocks such as NAHCO (-9.78% w/w), UNILEVER (-5.48%), and CWG (-5.31%), outweighing buying interest in NCR (+9.89%), IKEJAHOTEL (+9.74%), and UACD (+2.49%).
  • Sectoral performance was largely negative as all major indexes close in the red. The Insurance index (-7.05%w/w) led the decliners, followed by Industrial (-4.50%w/w) followed by banking Index (-3.85%w/w), followed by oil and gas (-1.61%w/w) and consumer goods (-0.44%w/w) . Today, only the banking index closed in the green (+0.28%), while others closed in the red, Insurance (-(2.24%) led the losers, followed by oil and gas (-0.67%), followed by consumer goods (0.16%), and Industrial (-0.01%),
  • In today’s session, market activity was up, with the transaction volume and value higher by 88.07% and 175.51% respectively. ACCESSCORP (-2.38%) led the volume chart with 128.69mn units, while UACN (+2.49%) topped the value chart with N5.18bn worth of trades.
  • Market breadth closed negative at 0.40x, indicating more decliners than gainers. NCR (+9.89%) led the seventeen (17) gainers, while INTENEGINS(-9.79%) led the forty-five (45) losers.

NASD SUMMARY

  • The NASD market witnessed a rebound from the previous session, as the NASD Securities Index (NSI) and market capitalisation increased by 0.71%, closing at 3,631.52 points and N2.17trn, separately.
  • Market activity however closed in the red, as the transacting volume and transaction value dipped by 18.04% and 82.59%, respectively.
  • SDOKITIPUPA (+9.08%) led the two advancers while SDCSCSPLC (-2.50%) was the only decliner in the market.
