Egypt beats Benin to progress in AFCON 2025

The Pharaohs of Egypt sweater it out today to defeat the determined and hard fighting Cheetahs of Benin Republic in AFCON 2025. At full time, including the 30 minutes extra time, the score was 3:1 with Mo Salah netting his tenth AFCON goal and sealing the quarter final ticket for Egypt.

Both teams could not find the net during the first half of play which was marred by hard physical tackles. In the second half, the Egyptians scored first and only for the Beninoise to equalise ten minutes later dragging the game to extra time.

In the extra, Egypt scored a goal in each half with the second goal coming through Mo Salah who got the ball after a spirited corner kick by Benin and raced towards the Beninoise goal as the goal keeper was off his post. That sealed it for the Pharaohs.

The Cheetahs of Benin gave a very good account of themselves. Pundits had predicted an easy win for Egypt but that was not to be as the Beninoise came to challenge and change the status quo.
