Finally, Harry Kane wins a major trophy – the 2025 Bundesliga

No longer the nearly man, Harry Kane has finally won his first major team trophy after Bayern Munich were crowned Bundesliga champions for a 33rd time. The lack of silverware is something that has dogged Kane for years. The Englishman has lost six finals, twice with England in UEFA European Championships (2021 and 2024) and three times with Tottenham Hotspur: once in the UEFA Champions League and twice in the Carabao Cup.

Bayern Munich officially secured their 33rd Bundesliga title after Bayer Leverkusen, in second place, failed to secure a victory against Freiburg on Sunday. This achievement marks the first significant trophy for Harry Kane as a player and for Vincent Kompany as a manager.

Initially, it appeared that Bayern would clinch the title on Saturday against RB Leipzig, but a last-minute goal from Yussuf Poulsen postponed their celebrations once more. However, Leverkusen fell behind 2-0 at Freiburg, conceding goals on either side of half-time, including an own goal by defender Piero Hincapié. Despite a late surge that saw them equalize through Florian Wirtz and Jonathan Tah, their pursuit of the title came to an end.

Following Leverkusen’s draw, Kane shared a video on social media showcasing himself and his Bayern teammates celebrating with a rendition of Queen’s ‘We Are The Champions,’ accompanied by some beer. In his inaugural season in Germany, Kane scored 36 league goals, earning the European Golden Shoe, but missed out on the title due to Leverkusen’s impressive unbeaten run under Xabi Alonso, with Stuttgart finishing as runners-up.

This season, his 24 goals have played a crucial role in restoring Bayern’s dominance under Kompany, who was facing relegation from the Premier League with Burnley at this time last year. Kane is on track to become the first player to win the top scorer title in both of his initial Bundesliga seasons. Bayern, who also claimed the championship in 1932 before the Bundesliga era, have now achieved 12 titles in 13 seasons, significantly outpacing the next most successful teams, Borussia Dortmund and Borussia Mönchengladbach, who have five titles each.

Despite their triumphs, Bayern has faced some setbacks this season, including a 1-0 home defeat to Leverkusen in the German Cup in December and a 4-3 elimination by Inter in the Champions League quarter-finals.
