In this interview, the Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Elijah shares the vision and activities of his company in the clean cooking industry in Nigeria, How Avalanche Multiglobal Power is Revolutionizing The Clean and Renewable Energy Sector

Give us a brief introduction to your organization. Expatiate on the products/services you promote. We are Avalanche Multiglobal Power Ltd., a company duly registered in Nigeria with the Corporate Affairs Commission. Our corporate mandate is to take clean and renewable energy businesses beyond limits. We were incorporated to drive the penetration of clean and renewable energy solutions, starting with Nigeria and, in time, expanding beyond its borders to meet the growing needs of people everywhere. At Avalanche, we are committed to advancing the clean energy agenda through research, manufacturing, distribution, facilitation, training, and advocacy. Our ultimate corporate aim is to help mitigate the adverse effects of climate change and set Nigeria on the path to net zero emissions.We are particularly active in decarbonizing the road transport sector and the clean cooking industry. In the clean cooking space, our focus is the development of a Smart Cooking System, a mini-grid powered by green hydrogen gas. Each mini-grid connects about 100 households or more, supplying energy-rich water that is converted into hydrogen gas through an installed machine in the kitchen. The gas is then used in specially designed burners to provide precise, clean, and efficient heat for cooking. We also seek to create massive awareness campaigns and outreaches to let the people know the benefits of clean cooking and what it’s day-to-day uses contribute to the environment.

What does your organization seek to achieve in Nigeria’s cooking energy market? We seek to achieve decarbonization – firstly to get cleaner air with less or zero pollutants. With this, our environment will not experience the adverse effects associated with climate change such as heat intensity which leads to skin cancer, suffocation in respiratory system leading to seizures, flooding, food shortages etc. Also, we want to achieve this by making the products and services readily available and affordable for Nigerians.

What are the opportunities in the business environment that have supported your organization in Nigeria? The clean cooking industry in Nigeria is still at an infant stage. The leadership of the country has barely scratched the surface with regards to getting the full gains that the industry brings, particularly in attracting international opportunities and investments needed to scale up activities. The industry has the potential to employ millions of people, yet because of this gap, companies in the clean cooking sector find it difficult to achieve their corporate goals.This is the exact challenge that Avalanche Multiglobal Power Ltd is currently facing. Without the right support, companies are struggling to stay afloat and make meaningful progress. We think there should be radical and systemic change to help companies achieve the corporate goals.

Job creation and the empowerment of women seem to be increasingly important. How has your organization helped to drive employment generation and the empowerment of women? These are exactly the focal points we are also driving at. We acknowledge the sensitivity of a gender-friendly environment. We have women in our hierarchy of directors and also as part of the staff strengths, we desire to keep increasing the numbers in time and create a healthy balance in the mix. Job creation is very key part of our corporate goals. We also seek to achieve hubs of activities by training of women.

If you are asked to advise the Federal government of Nigeria on policy options, what are the three most important things the government can do to expand the market? We would like to advise the Federal Government to expedite the development of a comprehensive policy framework, which we understand is still in progress. This is critical for scaling up activities in the clean energy industry, with clean cooking being one of its key beneficiaries.Furthermore, the government should prioritize investment in infrastructure and facilities that can lay the foundation for seamless industrial practices. A strong financial policy is also needed to support clean energy businesses especially those in the clean cooking sector. The pollution caused by traditional cooking methods is a silent killer, claiming the lives of thousands of women and children every year.A robust policy framework will also attract investment in the carbon market, enabling subsidies for products and services, and making them more affordable for end users. While many households desire clean cooking solutions, affordability remains the biggest barrier to access.

If an enabling environment is not created by the government, what future risks do you envisage? We envisage more climate related disasters which is as result of man-made pressure on the environment and it is noteworthy to accept the fact that environment safety guarantees safety of lives and properties. If emissions go on unabated, this is a cause for concern. It should not be business as usual in the approach to achieving climate goals. Health risks and insurgencies are also linked to climate issues. Where do you envisage your organization to be in the next 5 years? In the next five years we intend to fulfill at least eighty per cent of our corporate goals to position us in the path to net zero economy and also Avalanche Multiglobal Power Ltd to be an organization that people will easily relate to due to our established strong presence and visibility in a healthy business environment to serve the people better with cutting edge innovations from Our R & D department.

What risk does your organization currently face and what is your biggest challenge? We are currently facing the risk of right policies which should have been before now firmly established by the Government to facilitate seamless transition to clean energy economy which clean cooking Industry is one of the major contributors. Also, financial support in forms of grants and lower single or zero interest loans to help organizations like ours thrive.

What are your suggestions for moving the cooking energy market forward in Nigeria? More investments opportunities, systemic and intentional support to the industry by government. Creation of enabling environment to attract more investments internationally and locally. Creating waivers in tax to organizations in clean energy businesses especially the clean cooking sector. Is there any other thing you would like to share? Government should prioritize clean cooking and other clean energy business to position our economy to achieve much within the shortest possible time.
