Man City Vs Tottenham: City fall miserably 0:2 at the Etihad as New signings play woefully

Against all expectations in the EPL week 2 game of Man City Vs Tottenham, Manchester City FC today fell miserably to Tottenham Hotspurs by 0:2 in front of their own fans at the Etihad stadium. Both goals were scored in the first half of play and both goals came through defensive errors on the part of Manchester City, a very, very familiar tune. The first goal was as a result of a defensive error by the defenders while the second goal came as a result of a foolish and care less play by the Manchester City goal keeper in front of his own goal post. Spurs who were at the Etihad Stadium for a serious business seized the opportunity to punish City and teach them not to play boo with fire.

The question anyone should be asking here is what exactly is Pep Guardiola doing? The play today was just so miserable as City played like high school students. The field field which used to be City’s strong strength was completely lost to Spurs and the players were sluggish. For the entire duration of the game, City players slipped and fell down a total of about ten time at the Etihad, their home ground while Spurs, in fact, non of the Spurs players fell down. So are the City Players hungry and underfed or malnourished? Are they suffering from arthritis, osteoporosis and rheumatism? that they could not run and play.

More worrisome is the fact non of the City new signings played good football today, they were all disappointments. City could have scored at least three goals in the first half but Marmoush, Cherki and Reijnders, all new City signings, were just not in the game. Wrong footing, wrong strikes, not knowing what to do with the ball, it was a sad day.

Kudos must be given to the Spurs players. They came with a strong appetite to play and to win and they did just that. In fact, the scores could have ended 3:0 in favor of Spurs were it not for a last minute save made by the goal keeper.

Mention must be made of Erling Harland in todays game. He was the only outstanding City’s players who came to play and who came with his talent and his game. His team mates could not get the balls across to him and when they do it was the wrong ball and the wrong passes. It appears he is the only one in City lineup who knows how to score goals and who knows exactly what to do with the ball. Why the Man City team are not playing to Erling Haarland’s strength is just one we cannot answer and why Pep Guardiola is not building the team to play and get balls across to Erling Harland is just another worry.

Jeremy Doku came in the second half and much was expected from him but he was just as woeful today like his other team mates. He could hardly get the passes across from the wings to his team mates waiting around the penalty box. The game took a slight turn in favor of City when Rodri, the midfield maestro, came in and he could have netted through a header were it not for the alert Spurs’ goal keeper. Definitely, City and Pep Guardiola have much to do this season if they are to even end up with a top four finish. Congratulations to Spurs and their fans for a well deserved victory.
