TECH CONVERGENCE 2.0 IS HERE: SHAPING DIGITAL FUTURE WITH POWER OF THE INTERNET
The Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA) is delighted to announce the return of its flagship digital economy conference, Tech Convergence 2.0, for its second edition. This event is scheduled for Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at the esteemed Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja, and it promises to be a significant gathering for Nigeria’s digital ecosystem.
With the theme: “Building Nigeria’s Digital Future: The Internet as a Catalyst for Growth,” Tech Convergence 2.0 will assemble prominent figures from government, industry, academia, civil society, and the private sector to discuss strategies that will elevate Nigeria as a leading digital powerhouse in Africa and beyond.
The internet continues to reshape Nigeria’s economy, contributing to the growth of e-commerce, fintech, educational technology, creative industries, and digital services. Recent reports indicate that Nigeria’s digital economy accounts for over 18% of the national GDP, establishing it as a vital driver of growth and innovation.
In remarks made prior to the conference, NiRA President, Mr. Adesola Akinsanya, emphasized the necessity of securing Nigeria’s online identity: “Nigeria’s digital economy is a powerhouse, but to maintain its momentum, we must strengthen our local internet infrastructure and identity. This is the purpose of Tech Convergence, which brings together stakeholders to protect our digital sovereignty through the .ng domain and to realize the full potential of a connected Nigeria.”
He further stated that the internet has evolved from being merely an enabler to becoming the engine of digital transformation, with the .ng domain representing ownership, trust, and sovereignty in Nigeria’s online environment.
The Event Chairman, Mr. Seun Kehinde, pointed out the stakeholder-focused design of the conference: “Tech Convergence is more than just an event; it is a collaborative platform where ideas are shared, partnerships are formed, and solutions are developed. As stakeholders, we bear a collective responsibility to ensure that the internet continues to promote inclusivity.
The first edition in 2024, which took place in Lagos, attracted over 400 participants and 25 speakers from various sectors of the tech ecosystem. The discussions focused on the internet’s potential to connect the creative industry with digital content. Building on this achievement, Tech Convergence 2.0 will broaden its scope to include policy, infrastructure, cybersecurity, local content, and emerging technologies.
NiRA has persistently invested in enhancing Nigeria’s internet infrastructure to foster innovation and security. Initiatives include: WHOIS Privacy Redaction, which ensures privacy and protection for registrants of the .ng domain; DNSSEC (Domain Name System Security Extensions), which adds an essential layer of defense against cyber threats; and Capacity Development through the .ng Academy, which trains thousands of Nigerians in digital skills, domain entrepreneurship, and internet governance.
As stated by NiRA’s Chief Operating Officer, Mrs. Seyi Onasanya: “Our commitment extends beyond the management of the .ng domain. We are establishing the foundation for a robust internet ecosystem that can support startups, SMEs, public institutions, and innovators who will define Nigeria’s digital future.”
