Wet season farming: Governor Abdul’azeez Yari of Zamfara subsidises fertiliser
Governor Abdul’azeez Yari of Zamfara State has launched 25,000 metric tonnes of fertiliser procured for distribution at subsidised rates of N5,000 per bag to farmers in the state. Yari, who flagged off the 2018 fertiliser sales at an occasion held at Nasarawa Burkullu town of Bukkuyum Local Government Area, said this year’s wet season farming would provide farmers with enough fertiliser and new improved seeds across the state.
According to him, each of the 14 local government areas in the state will receive 60 trucks of fertilisers in this year’s farming season, stressing that “this will help the farmers in the cultivation of more farms produced this farming season.”
Yari maintained that the routine launch of the fertiliser alongside other farming inputs was part of his government’s commitment to enhancing food security and job opportunities in the state. He added that the scheme was an impetus to Federal Government’s economic diversification.
He said his administration expended the sum of over N6.8 billion in the procurement and distribution of fertiliser and insecticides for farming activities in the state. On the issue of security challenges, Yari said that his administration would not condone any act of sabotage from armed bandits, who plan to terrorise farmers in an attempt to disrupt farming activities in the state at this year’s farming season.
According to him, government in collaboration with the Federal Government would join hands together to ensure those criminals are decisively dealt with. He urged various communities in the state to help by assisting the security agents with relevant information in order to fish out all the bad eggs to ensure adequate security of lives and property.
