Attend the 2025 Nigeria Internet Governance Forum in Abuja
The Nigeria Internet Governance Forum (NIGF 2025) is here again – bigger, richer, and more impactful! The Nigeria Internet Governance Forum (NIGF) is Nigeria’s national chapter of the global Internet Governance Forum (IGF), established in 2013 as a multi-stakeholder platform to foster dialogue on internet policies, access, security, and digital transformation. It engages government, private sector, civil society, academia, technical communities, and youth to shape Nigeria’s role in regional and global IGF processes.
Inspired by the UN’s IGF (launched 2005), NIGF evolved organically from collaborations among stakeholders like the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Nigerian Internet Registration Association (NiRA), and Internet Society Nigeria (ISOC NG). The first edition in 2013 focused on youth empowerment; subsequent years addressed economic recovery, e-governance, and post-COVID digital inclusion. Annual events have grown to attract 300+ participants, with pre-events like Youth IGF (YIGF, since 2013) and Women IGF (WIGF, since 2023).
Objectives
- Coordinate domestic participation in local, regional (e.g., AfIGF), and global IGF dialogues.
- Debate key issues like cybersecurity, data privacy, digital literacy, child protection, and inclusive growth.
- Build partnerships to enhance trust, sovereignty, and sustainable internet use for socio-economic development.
- Aggregate ideas for policy recommendations to government and stakeholders.
Structure and Governance
NIGF is coordinated by the Multi-stakeholder Advisory Group (MAG), representing diverse sectors including the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy (FMoCIDE). It operates as an open, hybrid forum (in-person and virtual) for broad inclusivity.
