Crystal Palace Beat Liverpool to Win The Community Shield as Mo Salah Misses Penalty Kick
FA cup winning champions, Crystal Palace, added yet another trophy to their 2025 collections as they came from behind to beat Liverpool 5:4 to Lift the 2025 Community Shield.
Liverpool summer signing Hugo Ekitike opened the scoring on his competitive debut in the fourth minute, assisted by another new addition, Florian Wirtz, before Jean-Philippe Mateta equalised fior Crstal Palace with a 17th-minute penalty.
Liverpool FC restored their lead four minutes later through another new signing, Jeremie Frimpong, before Ismaila Sarr’s 77th-minute equaliser for Crystal Palace brought the game to a 2:2 and forced the game to go the penalties
At full time the scores stood at 2:2 but in the ensuing penalty kicks at Wembley Stadium, Mo Salah, Mac Allister and Harvey Elliott all missed from the penalty spot while Crystal Palace netted three of their kicks to leave final scores at 5:4 and lift the Community Shield Trophy.
Liverpool has been spending massively in the transfer market this season, spending £150 million on Florian witz alone. The Liverpool squad for the Community Shield match was worth an excess of €500 million and still lost to Crystal Palace with a team valued below €100 million.
