9mobile Changes Name to T2

9mobile, operated by Emerging Markets Telecommunication Services Limited, has changed its name to T2. The name change was announced by the Managing Director, Mr. Obafemi Banigbe, at Tech Meets Tenacity corporate event held at Eko Hotels and Suites in Lagos. Speaking at the event, Mr. Banigbe said, “We are no longer who we were; we are becoming something greater, more ambitious, and more in tune with the future. “This change is necessary for us to give our best. We are not playing catch-up, but to lead in the industry,”

The 9mobile name change includes a rebrand from the company’s green color to orange, marking a major shift in its market outlook. The company equally changed the payoff to “Your Digital Lifestyle Partner“. The company currently has 2.4 million subscribers, representing 1.42 percent of the 171.73 million active telecom subscribers in Nigeria, based on data from the Nigerian Communications Commission as of June 2025.

Speaking further, Mr. Banigbe underscored that T2’s shift towards becoming a customer-centric, technology-oriented, and API-enabled operator will allow it to provide quicker, more intelligent, and customized services, supported by cloud-native infrastructure and data analytics. He highlighted the role of technology as a fundamental element of business operations, organizational culture, and human interaction, noting that telecommunications consumers in the country are increasingly seeking speed, accessibility, and relevance.
