FG Launches YouthCred National consumer credit scheme for Youths aged 18–39

The Federal Government has launched YouthCred, a national consumer credit initiative aimed at Nigerians aged 18–39, including members of the NYSC, to enhance access to credit and improve financial literacy.

In line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, this program provides low-interest, collateral-free loans without the need for guarantors, overseen by the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP). Since its inception in July 2025, YouthCred has successfully reached its 1,000th beneficiary and aims to assist 400,000 youths across the country.

To apply, candidates must complete a digital financial literacy course that includes topics on credit management, repayment strategies, and responsible borrowing practices. In addition to loan distribution, the initiative promotes a nationwide reorientation of credit through gamified learning experiences and a fully digital onboarding process that utilizes BVN and NIN for quick verification. In certain instances, financed items, such as digital devices, are delivered directly to the recipients.

While initially targeting NYSC members, the scheme is set to expand to encompass all employed youth and youth-owned enterprises, offering flexible repayment options. It also prioritizes data privacy, financial education, and youth empowerment to transform Nigeria’s credit culture and promote economic inclusion.
