Preview of Manchester City vs Everton Game and Score Prediction

As the Premier League returns from the international break, Manchester City vs Everton at the Etihad Stadium in a game with more than the usual three-points at stake — it is a chance for City to reassert their grip and climb the table, and for Everton to gain an elusive win away at the league’s giants.

City arrive in buoyant form. Under Pep Guardiola the team have regained their momentum: seven games unbeaten in all competitions and scoring for fun. Erling Haaland is once more the main event — his goals have been unstoppable this season, and his early withdrawal from the international break suggests City are keen to keep him razor-sharp for this kind of fixture.

That said, there are significant concerns. Midfielder Rodri remains out with a hamstring problem, which leaves a hole in City’s engine room.
Defenders like Abdukodir Khusanov are still out, and while the squad is deep, those losses require Guardiola to select rotation and shape carefully. Everton have their own reverses: on-loan winger Jack Grealish is ineligible to face his parent club, which robs the visitors of a creative spark.

For Everton, the game is challenge and opportunity. The Toffees have been reviving under David Moyes, and their recent win over Crystal Palace ended the latter’s long-running unbeaten run.

Their record away to the Etihad is, nevertheless, daunting — they have failed to win in fourteen of their latest Premier League visits and lost the majority of the recent encounters.

Tactically, City will likely dominate possession and look to exploit their width and attacking transitions. With Rodri missing, the likes of Tijjani Reijnders and Phil Foden may have increased creative burdens, while Haaland will be aided by wide runners such as Jeremy Doku to try and stretch the Everton defence. Everton, aware of their relative weaknesses, may play in a more compact shape, looking to counter-attack through Iliman Ndiaye or Beto. But with Grealish absent and defensive injuries pending, their room for error is small.

The head-to-head record strongly favours City. In simulations by data analytics firm Opta, City were given about a 66 % chance of winning this fixture, with Everton’s hopes of victory assessed as less than 16%.
With that dominance, the expectation is clear: City should control the game, but Everton’s stubbornness should hopefully make it not a rout scoreline.

Prediction: Manchester City 3–0 Everton — A routine home win for the hosts, with Haaland likely to score and City looking to force their way into the title-fight conversation. Everton may show some fight, but their limitations in this context will see them struggle to leave with anything.

Briefly, this is a game of routine brilliance rather than surprise. It is a matter of building up momentum and making a statement for City; a matter of breaking with tradition and causing one of the shocks of the season for Everton. Whichever team wins, this encounter will provide a clear idea of where both teams are going in this 2025-26 season.
