VivaJets Receives NCAA’s Air Operator Certificate
The frontline Nigerian business aviation company, VivaJets, has obtained its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), during a period of rapid global expansion over the past two years and advocacy for the reduction of continental barriers to air travel.
As stated by CEO Erika Achum, possessing an African AOC grants the firm commercial rights to operate in the 34 countries that have ratified the Yamoussoukro decision, which is a precursor to the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM).
“Our narrative exemplifies the transformative potential of business aviation in enhancing connectivity and fostering innovation throughout Africa. We are convinced that Africa’s prosperity is rooted in connectivity both within the continent and beyond,” Achum remarked.
Since its establishment two years ago, VivaJets has engaged in numerous international events, where the firm has championed the cause of free aviation across Africa. At the 2025 Africa CEO Forum (ACF) held in Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoire, Achum made a passionate appeal for the immediate removal of long-standing barriers to air travel within the continent, stressing that aviation serves as a crucial catalyst for economic integration and growth across Africa.
“Our skies remain fragmented due to outdated agreements and policies,” he noted. “What Africa requires is a cohesive, modern aviation strategy that emphasizes accessibility, innovation, and collaboration.”
“We are a continent of over 1.4 billion individuals, with expanding cities, industries, and innovation centers. If we optimize aviation, we can unlock a future where Africans can travel, trade, and connect freely; and that future is attainable,” he concluded.
VivaJets has experienced significant growth over the past two years, marked by an expanded fleet, global routes, and a rapidly increasing team. This was highlighted by the unique cabin crew outfit designed by the renowned fashion designer, Loza Maleombho, showcased at the Lagos Fashion Week in November 2024. In April 2025, the company launched Above, a travel magazine.
As stated by Chief Operating Officer, Tejumade Salami, the company’s progress has been supported by an exceptional team. “We have been fortunate to have the most dedicated and innovative team. As we look ahead, we are determined to reach even greater heights — delivering excellence, encouraging innovation, and shaping the future of private aviation in Africa,” she remarked.
“Ultimately, with the acquisition of its AOC and the launch of ABOVE magazine, Falcon Aerospace continues to affirm its status as a pioneering leader in Africa’s private aviation industry, introducing new levels of connectivity, innovation, and cultural pride,” she concluded.
