Airtel to acquire 3,950 tower tenancies from IHS Nigeria

IHS Nigeria and its affiliated companies, which are subsidiaries of IHS Holding Limited, a prominent global entity in the field of shared communications infrastructure, have entered into an agreement with Airtel Nigeria, a subsidiary of Airtel Africa Plc, one of the leading mobile network operators in Africa. As part of this commitment, Airtel Nigeria will acquire 3,950 tenancies over the next five years and extend the duration of its existing tenancies, encompassing approximately 6,000 tenancies, until December 2031.

Under this agreement, IHS Nigeria will provide 2,500 colocations, along with 5G amendments and build-to-suit sites, which will be owned and operated by the company.

In line with Airtel Africa’s sustainability strategy launched in October 2021, and IHS Towers’ objective to reduce its intensity metric by 50% by 2030 through its Carbon Reduction Roadmap, both organizations have agreed to collaborate on new environmentally friendly initiatives for their collective sites.

He also highlighted the long-standing partnership between IHS and Airtel Nigeria, as well as Airtel Africa in other African markets, and the importance of strengthening their collaboration to support the deployment of new mobile sites across Nigeria, the largest market in the region.
