Architect Ahmed Musa Dangiwa becomes Chairman of Shelter Afrique AGM Bureau
Architect Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, Nigeria’s recently appointed Minister for Housing and Urban Development, has succeeded Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN, CON as chairman of the annual general meeting (AGM) bureau of Shelter Afrique.
At the Company’s 42nd Annual General Meeting, held in May of this year in Abuja, Nigeria, Hon. Fashola replaced Hon. Daniel Garwe, Zimbabwe’s Minister for National Housing and Social Amenities, as chairman of the Bureau. After being chosen by the new administration to lead the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Dangiwa succeeded Hon. Fashola.
is the new chairman of the AGM bureau. The first job for Arc. Dangiwa will be to preside over Shelter Afrique’s Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM), which is slated to take place from October 3–6, 2023, at the Centre International de Conferences (CIC) in Algiers, Algeria. At this meeting, shareholders will be asked to ratify the institution’s updated statutes. He will also be in charge of making sure the Company’s 43rd AGM, which is slated to take place in Rwanda the following year, runs smoothly.
Dr. Ernest Nsabimana, the minister of infrastructure for Rwanda, and Mr. Mohamed Tarek Belaribi, the minister of housing, urban planning, and cities for Algeria, serve as Arc. Dangiwa’s deputies. The 44th AGM of Shelter Afrique is slated to take place in Algeria in 2025.
Key Undertakings
Arc. Dangiwa was welcomed by Shelter Afrique’s Board Chairperson Dr. Chii Akporji, who also assured the Minister of support from the organization’s Board of Directors, Management, and Staff. She added that the group was eager to collaborate closely with his Office to ensure the success of his tenure.
We gave Arc. Dangiwa a briefing on Shelter Afrique’s operations in Nigeria, including the important Naira-denominated bond that made its debut at the beginning of last year. We have also informed the Minister of other significant Organizational initiatives, such as the Statutes Revision Process, for which we are requesting his unwavering support in order to approve the Agreement document.
This is essential for building on the progress made thus far and putting Shelter Afrique on a strong growth trajectory, noted Dr. Akporji.
Dr. Akporji also made note of the Company’s request for the Minister’s assistance in getting the Government of Nigeria to fulfill its unfulfilled capital subscription requirements totaling US$21 million, which were authorized by the previous government but hadn’t been delivered by the end of its term.After Kenya, Nigeria is currently Shelter Afrique’s second-largest stakeholder.
A sustainable housing delivery system and associated infrastructure projects are needed in Africa, hence African governments created Shelter-Afrique, a pan-African housing finance and development organisation.
The Institution offers relevant services and financial products to support the supply and demand sides of the value chain for affordable housing. Additionally, it offers project management and consultancy services for sizable affordable housing projects. The African Development Bank (AfDB), the African Reinsurance Corporation (Africa-Re), and 44 African nations presently own it.
