The Atlas Lions of Morocco lived up to their AFCON pre-tournament billing as they humbled Tanzania in their Group F match by three unreplied goals to nil. They had 52% ball possession with a total of 12 shots out of which 7 were on target as against Tanzania 2 shots with non on target. #AFCON2023
In a stunning turn of events, Morocco took the lead against Tanzania. It all started when Tanzania’s goalkeeper, Aishi Salum Manula, made an incredible save from a free-kick. However, luck was not on their side as the ball fell right in front of Romain Sass, who wasted no time in firing it into the net. Morocco’s dominance continued throughout the match, leaving the underdogs with little chance to make a comeback. Despite their efforts, Tanzania only managed to take two shots, both of which failed to find the target.
The challenge became even more daunting for Tanzania when Novatus Miroshi received his second yellow card and was sent off after 70 minutes. With a man advantage, Morocco seized the opportunity and Azzedine Ounahi fired in a second goal. The excitement didn’t stop there as Youssef En-Nesyri rolled in a third goal, which was initially disallowed but later given after a VAR review.
Tanzania struggled to gain control of the game and rarely looked like scoring. However, they managed to hold on for the majority of the match. Unfortunately, any hope they had left vanished when Miroshi made a reckless tackle and received his marching orders. Morocco capitalized on their advantage, doubling their lead seven minutes later and adding a third goal in the 80th minute.
