Benue to set up four Agro processing factories and Industrial layouts
In its quest to industrialize and reposition the State, the Benue State Government is to set up agricultural processing plants to process the many agro produce from the State. This was contained in an address made by the Deputy Governor of the State, Engr. Benson Abounu, during the opening ceremony of the 2015 India Show in Lagos on Tuesday August, 25.
According to the Deputy Governor, the State loses about 70% of its agricultural produce to wastages and this has become a disincentive to farmers. Subsequently, the State government has come up with a five pillar strategy with agricultural value chain development the core. In this wise, the State Government plans to curb the wastes through industrial processing of agro products including mango, oranges, pineapple, yam and soya.
The plants will include a processing plant to produce soya milk; another plant to produce orange juice concentrate; a plant for pineapple juice concentrate and a plant for yam flour.
To achieve the objectives, the State Government is providing enabling environment in the way of industrial lands, infrastructure, industrial layouts and harmony for businesses and investors. The government is equally reaching out and inviting foreign direct investment to take advantage of the many opportunities for business and investment in the State.
