Coca-Cola launches #Empowering Collectors Initiative to recover 25,000 MT of plastic bottles

According to Amaka Oneyemelukwe, Director of Public Affairs, Communications & Sustainability at The Coca-Cola Company, “Scaling Nigeria’s PET and other food and beverage packaging waste recovery is what  the Coca-Cola Company is determined to achieve  at The Coca-Cola Company.  I am deeply excited to have the privilege to  launch #empowering collectors initiative”. 

“An initiative of Growing Businesses Foundation.in partnership with Recyclers Association of Nigeria (RAN), and funded by The CocaCola Company Foundation to recover a minimum of 25,000 MT of PET under our Africa sustainability platform #JAMii .Thank you to the waste management authorities in Lagos (LAWMA, LASEPA) and the Lagos Recyclers for their support and commitment to be part of the program”.

“The project will upskill and build capacity to over 5,000 informal waste pickers to be able to earn a decent income while also scaling the capacity of 10 collectors across 6 states of the federation to recover sufficient feed stock for everyone within the value chain. I am optimistic that everyone who have been carefully selected on this project will create #recyclingmagic in Nigeria”.
