Commodities prices marke an average gain of 2.72% on the exchange
As the week drew to a close, commodities prices showed a bullish trend on the open market, rising an average of 2.72%. Sorghum (+7.56%) and maize (+5.92%) were the market’s top gainers.
The Exchange’s volume of trading increased 13.37% week over week, with maize dominating the list. AFEX Export Index (AEI) experienced a slight loss of 0.02%, ending the week at 228.69 index points, while the AFEX Commodity Index (ACI) marginally increased by 0.81% to conclude at 489.32 index points.
The majority of commodities are expected to see an increase in price in the coming week due to strong demand and tight supply, according to market participants.
Market Price Dynamics
Paddy Rice topped the Exchange’s laggard chart by dropping by 0.21% week over week.
Most commodities on the open market saw a boost in price today. The highest gainer overall was sorghum, up 7.56% week over week.
Similar to the domestic market, most commodities saw an uptick in price this week. Grainers’ highest gainer was maize, up 5.79% week over week.
