Cristiano Ronaldo joins Saudi Arabian Club Al Nassr on a two-year contract
Cristiano Ronaldo has finally signed for Saudi Arabian Club Al Nassr on a two-year contract. The deal signed this afternoon between both parties is said to be worth $75 million per year. Reports have it that after the contract expires in 2024, Ronaldo will transit into an ambassador role for Saudi Arabia to help the country bid and win the hosting rights for the 2030 FIFA World Cup Competition.
Recall that he was sacked in November by Manchester United after he gave an angry television interview in which he claimed to feel betrayed by Manchester United and that he did not respect their Dutch boss Erik ten Hag.
He and his agent had tried in vain to get a new club in Europe. He had wanted to remain in Europe and play more UEFA Championship games but no team is willing to take him considering his growing negative attitude and reputation coupled with his high wages.
In November Ronaldo revealed that he had turned down the £305m offer from Saudi Arabia in the summer. But being out of favor and out of club, he seem to have had no other choice but swallow his pride and accept the offer from Al Nassr, technically ending UEFA game actions for him, at least for now.
It remains to be seen how successful this Ronaldo’s sojourn into Saudi Arabia will turn out to be. Most players that have left Europe and gone to ply their trade in places like China, UAE and Russia have not had much success apart from the mouth watering cash. It usually turns out to be a retirement move and a sojourn into football wilderness as the standard of football in these countries are low and the migrating players do not get quality coaching and quality play from their respective team mates and from competing teams, respectively.
