Egypt rallies from behind twice to hold Ghana to a 2:2 draw in AFCON2023 group B Game
The Pharaohs of Egypt had to rally from behind twice to end their second group game in the ongoing African cup of nations AFCON2023 competition 2:2. Ghana scored their first goal in the extra time of the first half through Mohammed Kudus while Egypt equalized in the 69th minute of the second half through Omar Marmoush. The Black Stars of Ghana again went ahead in the 71st minute through Mohammed Kudus and Egypt’s Mustafa Mohamed netted the equalizer for the Pharaohs. Egypt had superior ball possession with 585 with five shots on target while Ghana had 42% ball possession and three shots on target.
During the game which was played at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan, Mohamed Salah had to be substituted in the first half due to a suspected hamstring injury. In the 45th minute, the Liverpool forward pulled up while attempting a run and sat on the turf, visibly dejected, waiting for treatment. Fortunately, the 31-year-old captain was able to walk off the pitch without assistance, although he seemed to be in some discomfort. As he received treatment, Salah appeared to gesture towards his left hamstring. This development is both concerning and hopeful for fans of both the Pharaohs and the Reds.
Kudus emerged as a key player when it truly counted – not once, but twice! Ghana took advantage of Egypt’s misfortune after Salah’s injury by swiftly scoring a fantastic opening goal just a minute later. Moreover, right after Williams’ unfortunate mistake led to the equalizer, Kudus collaborated with Dennis Odoi and hammered in another goal.
