Elon Musk’s Starlink Internet ready for deployment in Nigeria and to cost N438,000 for you to acquire
Nigeria is the first nation in Africa to secure partnership for the deployment of Elon Musk’s Starlink. Before the year’s end, Starlink had planned to launch its service in Nigeria, but that launch is currently waiting regulatory approval.
Isa Pantami, the minister of communications and the digital economy, had mentioned last year that some administrative obstacles were delaying the planned launch of Starlink. The Nigerian government authorized Starlink’s application to operate a High Throughput Satellite (HTS) in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) earlier in December, according to the Minister of Communications.
As part of the agreement, Space X would offer broadband service throughout the entirety of Nigeria, enabling nationwide access to broadband connectivity years before the National Broadband Plan’s December 2025 target date. Nigeria launches the service as the first African nation thanks to this partnership with SpaceX’s Starlink.
Nigerians will have to shell out $600 to obtain the installation hardware for Elon Musk’s Starlink internet service. At the current black market currency rate of N730 to $1, this is equivalent to N438,000.
Additionally, Starlink’s service in Nigeria will cost $43, or around N31,000, every month. The company announced that Nigerians can pre-order the $600 gear as it prepares to launch this year.
