FedEx Sets Up Direct Commercial Presence in Nigeria
FedEx Express (FedEx) has announced that it has opened a direct commercial presence in Nigeria to fulfill the country’s expanding needs for international shipping. While Red Star Express Plc, FEDEX service provider in Nigeria, continues to supply the infrastructure for ground operations, businesses and customers in Nigeria now have greater access to a wider spectrum of FedEx Express shipping solutions thanks to the company’s physical presence there.
Through www.FedEx.com, customers will also have access to a variety of digital tools from FedEx that facilitate and expedite shipment. These services include preparing shipping air waybills, creating new accounts, managing billing, tracking the status of shipments, and arranging courier pick-ups. Furthermore, FedEx will now have specialized Sales and Customer Technology teams local to interface with and offer improved logistical knowledge to support regional firms’ global expansion.
The African Development Bank predicts that between 2022 and 2022, the average growth rate for Nigeria’s GDP will increase by 3.2%[1]. Nigeria has the largest and fastest-growing economy in Africa.
Speaking on this, FedEx vice president for Middle East and Africa operations, Taarek Hinedi, said, “Today we are closer to our customers than ever before. This strategic step makes it easier for local businesses to ship with us as they look to tap more import and export opportunities and grow their customers around the world.” “Nigeria is on the right path for further growth and FedEx is committed to supporting this growth and connecting Nigeria to some of the biggest trading partners located in Asia and Europe. The FedEx network is crucial to provide businesses with greater connectivity between Africa and Europe as well as within the Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa (AMEA) region,” said Hinedi. “As Nigeria continues with its 2021 to 2025 National Development Plan to increase the share of its exports to Africa up to 35% from a base figure of 20%[2], businesses will require a range of international services and solutions to help boost the economy.”
Since 1994, FedEx has facilitated trade in Nigeria by providing its global solutions via Red Star Express Plc. With this most recent initiative, FedEx will keep making use of the infrastructure and capabilities of the service provider, Red Star Express Plc, which will continue to offer pick-ups, deliveries, customs clearance services, and retail outlets around the nation.
FedEx is still dedicated to helping the Nigerian government implement its Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP) in order to promote structural changes that would help the country diversify its economy and lessen its reliance on oil[3]. Nigerian entrepreneurs, importers, exporters, and consumers would be able to reach more than 220 nations and territories, accounting for more than 99% of the global gross domestic product, thanks to FedEx’s direct presence there.
