Google for Startups Accelerator: AI First”, initiative launched
Google has announced the creation of a new accelerator program to help African businesses using Artificial Intelligence (AI). The “Google for Startups Accelerator: AI First” project intends to identify startups across the continent interested in exploring the possibilities of AI.
It also aims to highlight African companies’ major contributions to addressing some of the region’s most critical concerns through the use of AI.
The 10-week equity-free accelerator program builds on previous initiatives such as the Google for Startups Accelerator: Africa, The Google for Startups Black Founders Fund, and The Google for Startups Accelerator: Women Founders, with the primary goal of supporting and highlighting African-driven solutions remaining consistent.
”AI First’ is more than a program; it’s a tribute to our conviction in these entrepreneurs’ vision, ensuring them get the support and direction they need to reach their full potential,” Folarin added.
The Google for Startups Accelerator: Africa program has helped 106 startups from 17 African nations since its beginning in 2018. These firms have collectively raised over $263 million in funding and produced over 2,800 direct job opportunities in the region.
The initiative is accessible to startups in Africa who are currently in the series A stage or are developing Africa-centric solutions using AI and machine learning. Participants will gain access to Google’s AI knowledge and technical resources, including up to $350,000 in Google Cloud Credits, mentorship from seasoned AI professionals, and a wealth of other benefits.
