Guinea beat Equatorial Guinea 1:0 at AFCON R16
Guinea secured their spot in the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final round thanks to Mohamed Bayo’s dramatic 98th minute goal, which led to a 1-0 victory over Equatorial Guinea on Sunday. The first half of the match was characterized by numerous fouls and a lack of shots on target. Both teams displayed an aggressive style of play, resulting in Julian Jeanvier of Guinea receiving a yellow card in the 41st minute. However, despite the intense action, the score remained deadlocked at 0-0 after a lackluster 45 minutes.
In the second half, Equatorial Guinea faced a setback when Federico Bikoro was shown a straight red card in the 56th minute. Despite being down to ten players, Equatorial Guinea continued to press forward and were awarded a penalty after a VAR check. Unfortunately for them, Emilio Nsue failed to convert the penalty, hitting the outside of the post.
As Equatorial Guinea desperately sought to score, their missed opportunities allowed Guinea to capitalize. In the 98th minute, Mohamed Bayo’s header found the back of the net, securing a late victory for Guinea on Sunday evening.
