Liverpool beat Chelsea with late goal to lift Carabao cup
Liverpool FC are 2024 Carabao Cup Champions. Today, after a thrilling full 90 minutes the game went into extra 30 minutes of play and then in the 27th minute, Virgil van Dijk struck with a header to give the loan goal and victory at the Wembley Stadium despite several key players being sidelined due to injuries.
Virgil van Dijk’s goal secured Liverpool’s first trophy of the season in their pursuit of the quadruple, as they defeated Chelsea 1-0 in the Carabao Cup final. Throughout the game, both Van Dijk and Raheem Sterling had goals disallowed for offside in each half.
However, Van Dijk’s determination paid off as he expertly directed a header into the corner just before the match headed into penalties. This victory added to Liverpool’s previous success against Chelsea in 2022, when they triumphed in a penalty shootout at the same stage. Jurgen Klopp’s young team inflicted further disappointment upon Todd Boehly and Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea on Sunday.
