Nigeria beat Cameroon 2:0 and Angola beat Namibia 3:0 at AFCON2023 R16
It took the Super Eagles of Nigeria just 36 minutes of the first half of play to open scoring in their AFCON2023 round of 16 match with the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon. Ademola Lookman assisted by Victor Osimhen to send the ball behind the Cameroonian net, beating the goal keeper.
Nigeria’s second goal came in the 90th minute of play also through Ademola Lookman who took a clean aim for goal within the penalty box, beating the Cameroonian goal keeper. Andre Onana, the Cameroonian choice goal keeper was benched by Rigobert Song throughout the game. He was equally omitted in the game against The Gambia. In all, out of four games played by Cameroon in the tournament, Onana only played in one.
In the first round of 16 match, Angola outclassed Namibia by 3:0 to progress to the quarter finals stage. Angola’s victory over Namibia in the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final round was fueled by the impressive performances of Gelson Dala and Mabululu.
Despite facing a setback early on with goalkeeper Neblu’s red card, Angola maintained their determination and consistently applied pressure on their Namibian opponents. Their efforts paid off when Dala scored the opening goal after 38 minutes of play. Shortly after, Namibia suffered another blow as Haukongo received his second yellow card and was sent off.
Taking advantage of the situation, Dala extended Angola’s lead just two minutes later, allowing them to comfortably enter halftime with a two-goal advantage. In the second half, Angola continued to dominate the game and secured their progress to the quarter-final round with Mabululu’s well-executed strike after the half-hour mark.
