Nigeria Internet Subscribers has surpassed the 152 million mark – NCC
According to the Nigerian Communications Commission the number of active internet users in Nigeria has surpassed the 152 million and currently stands at a little over 152.2 million while the number of active mobile users has surpassed 210 million.
This was announced over the weekend at NCC Day during the 43rd Kano International Trade Fair, which was put on by the Kano Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture. Professor Umar Garba Danbatta is the commission’s Executive Vice-Chairman (EVC).
Danbatta, who was represented by the commission’s Deputy Director for Consumer Affairs, Banji Ojo, also stated that 5G network’s commercial introduction in Nigeria has come a long way in terms of preparations. According to him, there were over 210 million active mobile subscriptions in Nigeria as of August 2022, giving the country a teledensity of 109.99 percent. In addition, there are already more than 152.2 million internet users, with broadband penetration at 44.65%. Nigeria’s SMEs must be able to use new technology and have the essential digital skills to conduct business globally in this new environment in order to remain competitive.
As you may know, the Nigerian Communications Commission is spearheading efforts to fully commercially deploy 5G network. Spectrum licenses have already been awarded to the businesses that will launch services. A license had already begun its commercial launch in Lagos.
