Paradigm Initiative Launches Ajegunle Legacy Scholarship for Brilliant students from less privileged backgrounds
Brilliant students from underprivileged backgrounds stand to gain from a scholarship program that was just announced by Paradigm Initiative (PIN), a preeminent pan-African organization.
The Ajegunle Legacy Scholarship, appropriately named after the region to assist local youth/students in securing university education in technology courses like information technology (IT), software development, and computer engineering, among others, has been established by the organization as a way of giving back to the Ajegunle community and honoring notable individuals who have played crucial roles in PIN’s early beginning in Ajegunle.
Two arms make up the Project. both the scholarship and the prize arms. The prize arm will yearly fund the university education of two young people (a male and a female) from Ajegunle who come from low-income families. They will study law or science-related fields. This award bears the late Taiwo Bankole Ogunyemi’s name, who was a stalwart volunteer for PIN’s LIFE Legacy Program. With this honor, the late Ogunyemi will be remembered for his contributions to the betterment of young people’s lives throughout Nigeria, particularly in Ajegunle.
The scholarship component, on the other hand, would fund the advanced software development training of two young people (a male and a female) from low-income households living in Ajegunle each year.
Beginning operations in the region in 2007 at a small cybercafé known as Stadnet, Paradigm Initiative, which has been connecting young underserved Africans with digital opportunities and assuring protection of their rights online for more than 15 years, expanded its footprints throughout Africa.
The group, which promotes digital inclusion and rights across the continent, has offices in Kenya, Zambia, Zimbabwe, The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Senegal, Zambia, and Nigeria from whence it coordinates its activities throughout Central, East, Southern, and West Africa as well as elsewhere.
PIN has changed the lives of over 6,700 underserved African kids by providing them with digital possibilities and protecting their online rights through the organization’s flagship LIFE Program alone.
We named the prize arm of the project after the late Taiwo Bankole Ogunyemi, who was one of the foremost volunteers to our work in Ajegunle, in recognition of the sacrifices he made to ensure that young people living in underserved communities like Ajegunle had access to skills and opportunities that would enable them to improve their lot, said Mr. ‘Gbenga Sesan, the organization’s Executive Director, during the program’s launch in Ajegunle.
The organization’s COO, Nnenna Paul-Ugochukwu, stated: “Through this two-armed project, PIN will be awarding a prize to two young persons resident in Ajegunle (one male and one female) covering four years of university education to study any course in STEM and Law in any Public University in Nigeria and a scholarship to another two young persons (one male and one female) to pursue training in advanced software development.”
The late Taiwo’s family expressed their approval of using his name for the Prize arm and expressed their belief that doing so will help to immortalize the late Taiwo.
The family expressed gratitude for the belief and consideration shown in considering his name deserving of this cause.
A capacity-building project called the LIFE Legacy Program aims to enhance the lives of underprivileged kids in host communities. Life Skills, ICTs, Financial Readiness, and Entrepreneurship are all referred to collectively as LIFE. The program is aimed for young people who lack the resources to learn the necessary entrepreneurial, life, and information communication technology (ICT) skills to compete in the workforce.
To enhance the quality of life for young Africans who are underserved, Paradigm Initiative (PIN) develops ICT-enabled support services and promotes digital rights. Since 2017, the group has worked in communities across Africa, gaining experience, community trust, and an organizational culture that puts it as the continent’s premier social enterprise in ICT for Development and Digital Rights. The company has operated in communities in Nigeria since 2007.
