The three recipients of the 2023 Digital Rights and Inclusion Learning Lab (DRILL) Fellowship have been announced by Paradigm Initiative (PIN), a preeminent pan-African organisation.

From a pool of 1,265 applicants from around the continent, the standout candidates—Mr. Wahome Wilson from Kenya, Ms. Ameni Saidani from Tunisia, and Ms. Sibongile Mokapane from Lesotho—came out on top.

The programme, which runs from August to December 2023, will give the fellows the chance to integrate themselves into the ecosystem for digital inclusion and rights. PIN hopes to facilitate cutting-edge learning about digital inclusion and rights in Africa through the fellowship and act as a hub for increased capacity and networking.

Saidani works as a project assistant for the Ibsar Association, Wilson is the lead researcher and consultant at Lawyers Hub Kenya, and Mokapane is an advocacy specialist for Politics4Her.

Wilson is a lawyer with expertise in technology and intellectual property. He has experience in a wide range of intersecting areas, including media law, data protection law, and privacy law. He counsels startups and other clients at the Lawyers Hub-Kenya on matters pertaining to intellectual property, data protection, telecommunications legislation, and other contractual difficulties.

Saidani is a passionate advocate who focuses mostly on digital rights, especially for those with disabilities. Ameni has a strong background in civil society participation that spans more than four years, and she has shown a steadfast dedication to digital fairness and diversity. With two Master’s degrees, one in “Disability and Rehabilitation” and the other in “Sign Language Interpretation,” she combines academic excellence with practical experience.

Mokapane is a committed human rights attorney with a focus on gender issues, digital rights, and the rights of women and children. She holds both an LLB and an LLM degree, is a licenced advocate, and is currently employed by Politics4Her as an advocacy professional with a focus on the Women’s Leadership and Political Participation portfolio.
