PIN Launches Finding Diana Short Film
In honor of this year’s International Human Rights Day, Paradigm Initiative (PIN), a prominent Pan-African human rights and advocacy organization, will today release its short film online.
Today, the day before the 10th December International Human Rights Day, Finding Diana, a film based on the organization’s 2021 Londa report, will be presented live on YouTube. There will be screenings of the movie for international audiences. The digital inclusion and rights situation in 22 different countries on the continent is highlighted in the 2021 Londa report.
PIN keeps tabs on the environment, records transgressions, and publishes reports on the status of digital inclusion and rights in Africa each year. The report’s title, which has Zulu origins, is an appeal for action to defend or safeguard Africa’s environment for digital rights and inclusion.
The Paradigm Initiative has also created online resources that inform and provide a secure environment for reporting abuses of digital rights. Ayeta, Londa, and Ripoti are a few of these platforms that provide articles, short films, and educational content online.
The subject for this year’s International Human Rights Day is Dignity, Freedom, and Justice for All. The day has been set aside to honor and spread awareness of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
The organization’s Partnerships and Engagements Manager, Ms. Thobekile Matimbe, emphasized the significance of the day in a speech before to the event, stating that human rights are built on principles that maintain society just, equal, and fair. She urged African nations to protect everyone’s online freedom and human dignity.
“Paradigm Initiative continues to make deliberate efforts geared towards expanding the continent’s digital rights. Finding Diana short film is an advocacy tool which goes a long way in emphasising themes such as internet freedom, freedom of expression and access to information among others. Everyone should be able to use the internet without fear of violence or harassment,” she added.
PIN joins the globe in commemorating the United Nations General Assembly’s adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948 by presenting the film virtually.
