Pioneer Consulting and MainOne complete branch link on submarine cable network connecting West Africa and Europe
With the global and industry firm Pioneer Consulting providing engineering and project coordination, MainOne has announced the achievement of Provisional Acceptance for its latest submarine fiber optic cable network which links Senegal and Côte d’Ivoire to the trunk.
Following successful and on schedule system line-up testing this past November, customers are already enjoying services on the new connections, enabling MainOne to expand its direct footprint on the submarine fiber optic network to five countries, with an expanding number of terrestrial connections and network across West Africa.
Labelled “Project Odyssey” to the internal working team, Pioneer Consulting’s project management group kept the project on schedule and within budget while at the same time avoiding potential obstacles. Pioneer Consulting’s expert team supervised all wet plant activities throughout project implementation including route and system engineering, product assurance, installation, and ultimately commissioning.
Being fully integrated with MainOne’s project leaders, Pioneer Consulting also managed activities that involved the complexities associated with successful commissioning of new links on an existing operational network as well as worked closely with the submarine cable system supplier and marine installer.
Representing MainOne, Regional Executive Mr. Kazeem Olawale Oladepo stated: “It remained our pleasure to work with Pioneer Consulting’s professional project management and engineering team as they integrated into our operational functions to deliver a project that was deployed on time, to budget and in total cohesion with the MainOne team.”
From the onset of the project, the most modern equipment and reliable techniques minimized potential risks and will enhance overall system reliability. With Submarine Line Terminal Equipment, the links employ the latest 100Gbit/s open system technology.
When asked about the completion of the project, Pioneer Consulting’s Project Sponsor and Managing Partner Keith Schofield spoke about the company’s affiliation with one another: “Our relationship began in 2008 with the successful deployment of the existing links in MainOne’s international submarine fiber optic cable system, and it was our privilege to be asked to return to help deliver the latest technology on the new upgrades and links. West Africa has never been better served by an open network provider such as MainOne, and the fully implemented upgrades are definitely open for business!”
“Project Odyssey” is an extraordinary model for international and inter-company cooperation in which all parties diligently worked together to achieve a common goal to benefit customers and citizens alike in West Africa.
