Sports Minister Congratulates Osimhen, Oshoala, Nnadozie and the Super Falcons for winning CAF Awards 2023
The esteemed 2023 CAF Awards ceremony took place in Marrakech, Morocco, and the Honorable Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, congratulates Victor Osimhen and Asisat Oshoala for their outstanding accomplishments in winning the coveted titles of Men’s and Women’s African Footballer of the Year, respectively.
The Minister stated that the Nigerian team’s success in taking home the most important individual awards in African football is proof of their exceptional skill, commitment, and significant contributions to the beautiful game.
He praised their outstanding efforts, which have not only brought honor to Nigeria but also gained international acclaim for their extraordinary abilities and dedication.
In order to further establish herself as the greatest goalie in Africa, Chiamaka Nnadozie also took home the first Women’s goalie of the Year Award.
“The triumph of the Super Falcons, Asisat Oshoala, Victor Osimhen, and Chiamaka Nnadozie at the CAF Awards not only offers Nigeria pride and honor, but it also creates new opportunities for the nation’s sports scene. Their accomplishments serve as an example for young athletes who aspire to be successful in the world, showing that skill, hard effort, and dedication can lead to extraordinary success.”
“The rise of Osimhen from the nearby suburb of Olusosun to the international arena demonstrates the importance of grassroots development in our strategies. The goal of this administration is to provide a platform for additional Osimhens, Oshoalas, and the like. We’ll make sure we pave the way for the future while promoting the growth of our sports.”
The Minister expressed his satisfaction with the two Nigerians, Osimhen and Oshoala, setting a new mark by being the first players from the same nation to win the prestigious title in the same year.
Victor Osimhen is the first Nigerian to win Men’s African Footballer of the Year in 24 years, and he has achieved the honor with his excellent on-field skill and outstanding exploits for club and country. Additionally, he placed among the top 10 in the 2023 Ballon D’or Awards.
Asisat Oshoala has been named Women’s African Footballer of the Year for a record-breaking sixth time thanks to her amazing accomplishments, which highlight her unmatched talent and dedication to the game. As the most decorated African player, the Super Falcons star is sitting alone on the CAF Awards stage.
