Sports Minister Meets with NFF and Super Eagles Coach Over Plans To Win The AFCON Cup
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) leadership and Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro met at a high level on Wednesday morning, organized by the honorable Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, to discuss strategic plans and preparations for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON Cup).
The goal of the cooperative session, which took place at the Minister’s office in Abuja, was to promote cooperation and establish a thorough plan of action to guarantee the best possible preparations and results for the Nigerian national football team in the eagerly awaited competition.
Senator Enoh reaffirmed the government’s steadfast support for Nigerian football and underlined the need for careful preparation and well-coordinated tactics to help the national team win the AFCON. The Minister told the NFF and the Super Eagles Coach that Nigerians are hungry for the AFCON Cup and want it back to Nigeria,
“Our country is so passionate about football, such that amidst all other sports, football is about the only sport that has an entry in the nation’s national budget,” stated the minister. “That is how important football is, because whatever happens to it, happens to us as a country.”
“The country is desperate to win the AFCON after ten years. It will be very important to President Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s administration as well as the people of Nigeria. Senator Enoh continued, “It is crucial that the Government be able to inform the Nigerian people of what is being done in that area, rather than just leaving the duty to the NFF alone.
He said that the national team’s chance to demonstrate its fortitude and resiliency on the continent is greatly enhanced by the AFCON. The meeting reaffirms the Ministry’s dedication to offering all the resources and assistance to guarantee the Super Eagles’ competitiveness and readiness for the competition.
Speaking at the gathering, NFF President Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau reassured Nigerians that they shouldn’t worry because everyone is pulling double duty to guarantee their nation does well at the AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire.
The NFF is dedicated to ensuring that the nation does well at the championship, he continued. Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro expressed gratitude for the team’s joint efforts and reaffirmed his dedication to leading the Nigerian national team to success. He underlined the need of thorough planning and said that the players and the technical staff will collaborate to resolve any kinks and make Nigerians happy.
The Minister praised Coach Peseiro and the NFF for their professionalism and dedication, assuring him that the team will play in an environment that fosters growth and that the appropriate steps are being taken to resolve any unresolved issues with the coach.
As the competition gets closer, Senator Enoh wants football fans to know that the government will always be there for them. He also wants Nigerians to support their national team as they get ready to play at the top level of African football.
First Vice President Felix Anyansi-Agwu, General Secretary Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, Technical Director Augustine Eguaveon, Chairman of the Technical Committee Sharif Inuwa, and Director of International Competitions Dayo Enebi were also part of the NFF team that attended the conference.
Nigeria will compete against Côte D’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, and Guinea-Bissau in the group stage of the tournament, which takes place in Côte D’Ivoire from January 13 to February 11.
