Super Eagles beat Angola 1:0 to advance to AFCON2023 semi-finals
The Super Eagles of Nigeria this evening eliminated Angola from the ongoing AFCON2023 competition in Ivory Coast. The Eagles defeated the Angolans by 1:0, the lone goal coming in the first half of play and scored by Ademola Lookman. The Super Eagles dominated the game through play and had a second-half goal by Osimhen ruled out due to offside rule. Several times, they came close to scoring only to be denied by the goalkeeper. Osimhen kept the Angolans anxious through play with his ball headings.
The Black Sable Antelopes came agonizingly close to equalizing just before the 60th minute when Zini’s shot struck the post, intensifying the game. Initially, it seemed that Pedro Goncalves’ team was trailing 2-0 after Osimhen headed in Lookman’s free-kick, but the goal was disallowed following a VAR review due to offside. Osimhen and Zito Luvumbo had late chances for their respective teams, but Nigeria held on for a well-deserved victory on Friday evening.
