Super Eagles of Nigeria beat Bafana Bafana of South Africa on Penalties to move into AFCON2023 final
Nigeria secured their spot in the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations after a thrilling match against South Africa. Kelechi Iheanacho emerged as the hero, scoring the winning penalty in a 4-2 shootout victory. The game, held in Bouake, ended in a 1-1 draw after an eventful conclusion to regular time.
The referee controversially disallowed a goal by Victor Osimhen, which would have given Nigeria a 2-0 lead, and instead awarded a penalty to South Africa. Teboho Mokoena successfully converted the penalty in the 90th minute, forcing the game into extra time. During the goalless period, South African defender Grant Kekana was sent off.
However, Stanley Nwabali, Nigeria’s goalkeeper, saved two spot-kicks, including one from Mokoena, leading the Super Eagles to a well-deserved victory. They will now face either Ivory Coast or the Democratic Republic of Congo in the final on Sunday.
