UBA Foundation flags off 2023 Tree Planting Campaign in partnership with Lagos State Parks and Garden Agency
The UBA Foundation has launched its 2023 Tree Planting Campaign in collaboration with the Lagos State Parks and Garden Agency (LASPARK), at the UBA Foundation Garden, Marina Lagos, and the International Airport Setback Garden, Ikeja Lagos, as well as across all of its locations in the 20 African countries, with the theme: Shades of Hope: One Tree at a Time.
UBA’s Group Managing Director, Oliver Alawuba, who launched the campaign with a symbolic tree planting at the UBA Foundation Garden in Marina Lagos, said the bank, through its Foundation, actively works in environmental conservation to protect the natural ecosystems on which Africa relies.
He explained that by collaborating with stakeholders and government agencies, the UBA Foundation promotes projects that improve biodiversity and ecosystem health while also serving as a model for sustainable practices.
“With the ongoing heatwave reported across the United States, United Kingdom, and China, we know that the issue of climate change must be taken seriously now more than ever,” Alawuba added. As a result, we must act quickly to save our world for future generations. There is a need to conserve our environment, and one way we may do so is by planting trees.
“This is very symbolic for us as a bank because we are committed to saving our host communities.” We are very committed to our Corporate Social Responsibilities; in fact, as a bank, UBA dedicates one percent of its annual profit to improving education, the environment, and giving back to the communities in which we operate.”
Tony Elumelu, Group Chairman of UBA and Founder of the Tony Elumelu Foundation, joined King Charles III of the United Kingdom and US President Joe Biden earlier this month in London at the Climate Finance Mobilisation Forum to help attract a new generation of capital to combat climate change.
Elumelu, who has been at the vanguard of Africa’s sustainability efforts and one of the continent’s most famous advocates for equitable climate finance, has been working with top international leaders to develop sustainable climate solutions. According to Tony Elumelu, the world need daring acts and novel new collaborations among public, private, and charitable players.
LASPARK is a crucial collaborator with UBA Foundation in its environmental activities. Mrs Adetoun Popoola, who was present at the tree planting effort in Lagos, thanked UBA for its efforts in planting over 1,000 trees across all of its branches in Africa, adding that initiatives like this complement government efforts.
“Collaborations like these are important, and we never fail to let people know that planting trees is critical to building a safer and more sustainable environment, which is important to us,” she said. As a result, we recommend that individuals learn to plant trees for important occasions such as weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, and others, which they can do on their balconies, gardens, rooftops, galleries, or anywhere else.
UBA Foundation, the CSR arm of the UBA Group, is dedicated to the socioeconomic enhancement of the communities in which the bank operates, with a focus on education, the environment, economic empowerment, and special projects.
