Victor Osimhen is Africa’s best player of the year, wins CAF Award 2023
Above Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, Osimhen was chosen as Africa’s greatest player. The Nigerian forward ended Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah’s dominance with this, the largest individual accolade in African football.
Walid Regragui of Morocco was voted Coach of the Year, and his countrymate Asisat Oshoala was selected Woman’s Best Player of the Year. Conversely, Chiamaka Nnadozie, a rising star from Nigeria, was chosen as the Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year. Yassine Bounou of Morocco won the title of Men’s Goalkeeper of the Year.
Osimhen has set a high standard for himself in the years to come, and with his skills, Premier League teams or major European sports leagues may choose to recruit him.
He is predicted to do exceptionally well in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations finals to help improve the disappointing Nigerian team.
It’s interesting to note that great Austin Jay Jay Okocha never took home the African Footballer of the Year trophy; Osimhen is the sixth Nigerian to do so.
