African Medical Centre of Excellence, Abuja, wins Best Health Deal Award

The African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) (www.Afreximbank.com), which is building the African Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE) in Abuja, Nigeria, has won the prize for the Best Health Deal in the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) area.

The AMCE is recognized as the most significant health-related transaction in the EMEA region by the award, which was awarded at the 15th Annual EMEA Finance Achievement and Project Awards Charity Dinner in London on June 7.

The top banks and the most significant deals and transactions in the region of Europe, the Middle East, and Africa are honored by the EMEA Finance Achievement Awards.

The AMCE project is being implemented with Kings College Hospital (KCH), London, as the clinical and technical partners, and Mrs. Gwen Mwaba, Afreximbank’s Director & Global Head, Trade Finance, who accepted the award on behalf of Afreximbank, stated that a KCH team, which recently concluded a visit to the project site, had been “overwhelmingly impressed with the pace of progress.

The AMCE is being created as a cutting-edge hospital that would pave the way for advanced and extensive healthcare in Nigeria and Africa. It is expected to be operational in the first quarter of 2025. It is intended to be a secondary and tertiary healthcare facility with 500 beds that offers a variety of services and specializations.

In addition to offering the entire range of medical services, such as diagnostics, treatment, nuclear medicine, surgery, and post-surgical care, it will offer a broad spectrum of care services, including oncology, cardiology, haematology, and general healthcare. The AMCE will also include auxiliary elements such a pharmacy sector, shopping centers, academic and research facilities, hotels, and apartments.

This award is a testament to the hard work and many hours of toil by the multifaceted and creative teams working on this highly impactful project,” said Oluranti Doherty, Director of Export Development. As Afreximbank, it is our mission to completely transform the healthcare system throughout all of Africa, starting in the West African region. Congratulations to all the participating teams.

In support of Afreximbank’s leadership in trade and trade facilitation in Africa, Brian Deaver, CEO of AMCE, said, “This award clearly highlights what lies ahead for the AMCE – a new dawn in providing best in class, globally renowned quality healthcare and clinical services in Africa. I’m ready and eager to take on this task with my team.
