The ambitious Mastercard Foundation Africa Growth Fund, a $200 million Fund of Funds, supports early-stage, growth-oriented small and medium-sized firms (SMEs) on the continent through African investment funds.
The Mastercard Foundation Africa Growth Fund, a new Fund of Funds investing in gender-lens investment vehicles in Sub-Saharan Africa with a focus on first-time and emerging fund managers, has been created by the Mastercard Foundation, MEDA, and a consortium of partners. In order to provide young people, especially young women, with employment opportunities and strengthen the long-term economic resilience of the continent, the initiative catalyzes and accelerates the growth of small and medium-sized firms (SMEs) throughout Africa.
By supporting investment vehicles that have a strong potential for job creation through their investment in entrepreneurs and emerging firms, the MFAGF collaborates with partners throughout the region to provide access to finance and non-financial resources. The program also features a sizable platform for business development services that is advantageous to both investment vehicles and SMEs.
The Fund initiative will aid in the advancement of the Mastercard Foundation’s Young Africa Works strategy, which aims to make work a viable option for 30 million African youth, particularly young women, by 2030.
High-risk investments are frequently made in funds that are owned, managed, and based on the African continent by African entrepreneurs. African SMEs also have trouble getting the funding they require to grow, which limits their ability to spur economic development and job creation on the continent.
By bolstering and investing in African investment funds, the Mastercard Foundation Africa Growth Fund addresses these issues. In turn, this strategy aids African SMEs.
- Investment instruments with a strong potential for employment generation are the target market.
- Small- and Medium-sized Businesses (SMEs)
