Apply for the The Falling Walls Science Summit Journalist Fellowship for Journalists (Funded to Germany)

The Falling Walls Foundation is giving a journalist fellowship grant to help foreign media representatives cover the Falling Walls Science Summit 2023 subjects. Selected media will be invited to Berlin on November 7-9, 2023, to meet worldwide speakers and attendees at the Falling Walls Science Summit.

The Falling Walls Foundation invites journalists to submit submissions explaining their selected topic for the Falling Walls Science Summit 2023’s transdisciplinary program. Successful applicants will be asked to participate in an exchange with renowned partner organizations and Summit speakers. Reporting can occur before to, during, or following the Falling Walls Science Summit (7-9 November 2023). The fellowship grant seeks to promote independent science journalism and to boost Berlin’s international public impression as a center of scientific excellence.

A total of fifteen media representatives will be chosen. They will each receive a fellowship grant, which will be provided in the form of a lump payment and will cover lodging expenses as well as the Summit ticket for the duration of the fellowship (6-10 November 2023).

Requirements

International and German media representatives with a demonstrated track record of journalistic performance (freelance or staff) are encouraged to apply.
Applicants must do research and write a paper on a topic connected to the Falling Walls Science Summit.
There are no restrictions on certain media areas or publication formats.

Benefits

The fellowship amount granted includes accommodation and Science Summit ticket expenses, but does not include any additional reimbursement from the Falling Walls Foundation. The Falling Walls Foundation will arrange lodging and can serve as an inviting party for visa purposes. Because travel to Berlin is required, the participants are expected to cover the costs.

Cover letter and a one- to one-and-a-half-page exposé/research plan on your favorite issue, including a publishing date and media contact. Please keep in mind that the subject of your reporting must be related to one of the Summit topics. The whole list of subjects is shown below.
A brief CV of your journalistic career, including journalism grants and accolades, is required.
Max. three samples of your journalistic work in a scientific sector
