Apply: WFP Digital Green Innovation Acceleration Programme (DGIx) for digital solutions

The Smart Development Fund (#SDF) and the WFP Innovation Accelerator have created the Digital Green Innovation Acceleration Programme (DGIx), which is supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, and the European Union (EU). DGIx is looking for high-impact digital ventures and projects that address some of the most important environmental issues in certain nations.

In low- and middle-income nations, combating climate change and biodiversity loss can be greatly aided by digital transformation. A “twin transition” strategy recognizes the significant and untapped role that technology and data play in advancing sustainability: rather than considering digitalization (the use of technology) and sustainability (the preservation of the environment) separately, it is theorized that these two changes can coexist. It claims that both environmental technologies and those that support digital transformation can aid in the development of stronger, more adaptable, and better economies.

The DGIx intends to encourage technologically advanced solutions to serious environmental problems. The program will choose businesses, service providers, and consortiums that the WFP Innovation Accelerator, #SDF, and other partners will support financially, technically, and methodologically. We will be able to use the digital-green synergies to ultimately enhance the lives of vulnerable people by working with the world’s best and brightest minds.

Requirements

By utilizing the potential of ventures and consortiums creating digital tools for climate action in the following areas, DGIx wants to take advantage of the previously described interconnection between digitalization and climate change.

Reducing possible harm and susceptibility brought on by climate change through adaptation.

Mitigation is the prevention and control of greenhouse gas emissions.

Resilience is the ability to foresee problems, prepare for them, and recover with little damage.

Interest Locations

Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, Kenya, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Rwanda, Senegal, Tanzania, and Togo are among the nations that are included in this group.

Benefits

  • access to a network and direct assistance
  • The chosen businesses and solutions will be asked to attend an in-person pitch event in Kigali, Rwanda, on January 30-31, 2024, as well as a 4-day entirely virtual WFP Innovation Bootcamp beginning in early December 2023.
  • financing, coaching, and mentoring
  • The WFP Sprint Programme, a six-month acceleration initiative with access to up to US$ 230,000 in equity-free investment, coaching, and mentorship support from a global network of pertinent partners in the public health domain, will welcome selected entrepreneurs to apply.

Scaling

For additional financing and support, mature solutions that have demonstrated their viability in terms of concept, size, and social effect may be eligible.
