BancTrust establishes affiliate operations in Nigeria
The London-based Emerging Markets investment bank BancTrust & Co. Investment Bank (BancTrust) has announced the official opening of a new affiliate office in Lagos, Nigeria.
Ayodeji Dawodu, Director – CEEMEA Fixed Income, Oluwaseun (Seun) Onayiga, Managing Director & Head of SSA Debt Capital Markets, and Omobola Adu, Economist covering SSA, make up the original Lagos-based team.
Ayodeji spent nearly eight years in credit and equity research prior to joining BancTrust, working at Standard Bank, Exotix Capital, Investment One Financial Services, and Debtwire. He also spent a brief time as a project and petroleum economist on the corporate finance team at Sahara Energy.
Seun worked for Renaissance Capital for 12 years, serving as managing director and head of investment banking SSA in his last position. Prior to that, he served as Senior Director and Head of the West Africa Investment Banking business, where he was in charge of creating the overall strategy and carrying it out.
Omobola previously worked as a Senior Investment Research Analyst at Afrinvest West Africa, where he was responsible for analysis of the Nigerian banking and consumer goods sectors. He also previously held the post of Economic Analyst at Growth & Development Limited.
“I think BancTrust’s primary motivation for opening an office in Lagos, Nigeria with these seasoned EM veterans is to serve as the regional headquarters for the Group’s operations in Africa. According to Dean Tyler, head of global markets and member of the executive board, the office would give our clients access to expanding markets around the continent as well as local knowledge and on-the-ground intelligence.
“I am thrilled to announce the expansion of the BancTrust group in Africa,” CEO Carlos Fuenmayor said. Our senior team has a wealth of knowledge dealing with frontier and emerging markets. Our presence in Lagos will help us better service and expand our clientele in SSA as we work to become their go-to partner in rising markets.
