BlueOcean Nigeria Gets Distribution Rights over BBOX and Duron Solar Energy Products

A Nigerian green energy company, BlueOcean Energy and Technology Services, has received the rights over the distribution of BBOX and Duron range of solar products in the country.

BBOXX is a UK based company in the renewable energy industry. The company designs, manufactures, distributes and finances innovative solar systems to improve access to energy across Africa and the developing world. Since 2010, BBOX has sold over 41,000 products in 35 countries providing over 205,000 people with electricity. BBOXX offers a wide range of plug & play solar on-grid, off-grid or backup kits and installations that come with sleep battery casing, panel mounting and control units which integrate all of the wiring, casing, fusing and electronics. Their products include their popular home solar systems that provide energy to provide lighting, fan, sound systems including televisions, and those that can power entire household equipments including refrigerators.

Duron Energy Private Limited is a pioneer in the solar industry. It design, manufacture and sell portable Off-grid Solar Power products for retail, institutional & OEM markets. They have several patents to their credit. Based in Bangalore, Duron was founded in2008 by a US based company ‘Idealab’ with the mission to bring power to millions that live without adequate power and started India operations in 2009. In 2014 it was acquired by the RAL Group. Mitva Duron Solar product line of instant start solar systems have unparalleled reliability, ease of installation and use. Backed with industry leading service standards, it has lacs of satisfied customers in India. Durons systems include solar home systems, solar power packs, solar street lighting, solar water pumps, solar water heaters, solar power plants and solar LED products.

To ensure that these products get to people, BlueOcean has partnered with Mayfair Microfinance Bank Limited to provide funding for Nigerians. Mayfair Microfinance Bank is a leading microfinance bank in Nigeria established more than five years ago with its head office in Ojuelegba, Lagos State. The MFB provides premium services including savings, loans, affordable housing financing, equipment leasing and now, solar energy products funding under its Lightup Naija Solar funding Program.

Besides providing the above products, the company consults on renewable energy installation, programs, trainings and research. It equally imports and distributes other solar systems in the country. All the products under its portfolio are approved and endorsed by Lighting Africa. Lighting Africa is part of the World Bank Group’s contribution to the goal of Sustainable Energy for All (SE4All) and is implemented in partnership with the Africa Renewable Energy and Access (AFREA) Grants Program, Denmark, the Energy Sector Management Assistance Program (ESMAP), the Global Environment Facility (GEF), Italy, The Netherlands and The United States of America.

The Chairman of BlueOcean Nigeria, Mr. Segun Adaju, explained that quality comes first for BlueOcean so that clients will get value for money. He further explained that BlueOcean’s venture into Renewable energy is borne out of health challenges of open firewood cooking to women and children, poor lighting from kerosene lanterns, and declining quality of education as a result of poor reading lights for students.

In addition to solar products, the company also offers improved cookstoves and biogas systems.

Its solar systems include those for households, small businesses and SMEs. With solar one is free from electricity bills, power outages, fluctuations and loss of productive man hours in addition to improvements in health and education. There are also benefits accruing on the income side due to savings made on kerosene and electricity bills.
