Canon Is Set to Empower Nigerian Youths Through Photography
Canon‘s educational initiatives in Africa, in alignment with the Kyosei corporate philosophy, emphasize the importance of living and working together for the common good. These programs reflect Canon’s dedication to sustainability, cooperation, and creating an environment conducive to growth and development.
Canon Central and North Africa is pleased to announce a partnership with Rolof Computer Academy, focusing on empowering youth and nurturing creativity. Through this collaboration, various educational programs such as the Canon Academy Juniors Programme, Miraisha Programme, Canon Print Hub, and Canon Academy will be implemented. This partnership represents a significant advancement in providing practical experiences and job opportunities for young people in Nigeria.
Rashad Ghani, B2C Business Unit Director at Canon Central and North Africa, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, “We are excited to embark on this transformative journey with Rolof Computer Academy. Our goal is to empower Nigerian youth with more than just technical photography skills.
“We aim to offer them immersive experiences, moments of discovery, and opportunities for personal growth. Through the art of photography, we seek to enhance their creativity and cultivate a sense of confidence and purpose.”
Rashad also highlighted Canon’s dedication to the principle of Kyosei, a Japanese philosophy that forms the core of the company’s principles. He elaborated, stating that Kyosei represents their belief in coexisting and collaborating for the greater good. It involves promoting harmony, teamwork, and mutual respect within the global community. Through the partnership with Rolof Computer Academy, Canon is furthering its goal of empowering individuals to create a positive impact on society.
What sets this collaborative effort apart is the incorporation of five distinct workshops scheduled between 23rd July and 3rd September 2024, as part of the Rolof Summer Programme at Rolof Computer Academy in Warri, Nigeria. This integrated approach provides participants with a cohesive and cooperative learning environment, where innovation and technology intersect seamlessly.
The workshops cater to a diverse audience, ranging from children to adults venturing into the field of photography. Conducted by Canon-certified instructors, the sessions offer engaging, practical training customized for two age categories: 8-16 years through Canon Academy Juniors, and 18-35 years via the Street Photography Workshop under Canon Academy and the Canon Miraisha Programme.
The Canon Academy Junior Programme is committed to fostering creativity and empowering young minds. It offers engaging and interactive sessions that aim to provide a stimulating and rewarding experience. These sessions are designed to instill a passion for photography in children. As part of the comprehensive program, young learners will be able to explore the world of arts and crafts. Canon Creative Park, a specialized content service for Canon printer owners, will be showcased during the training sessions, offering a wide range of paper crafting activities. These activities will give children a platform to showcase their artistic abilities and create unique works of art.
The Canon Miraisha Programme, which targets individuals aged 18-35, aims to create job opportunities and sustainable livelihoods in Africa. Workshops tailored for photographers, videographers, filmmakers, and print business owners will help enhance their skills and support their professional growth.
The Canon Academy offers a diverse range of hands-on photography workshops covering various topics, catering to different interests and skill levels. With the convenience of online access, training courses provide the flexibility to learn at any time and from anywhere.
Mr. Lucky Ofuafor, Director of Rolof Computer Academy, stated, “Our partnership with Canon Central and North Africa underscores our dedication to education and our commitment to introducing innovative educational opportunities in our community.
