Cardoso brings almost thirty years of managerial expertise to the table as an advisor on economic and development policy, a leader in the financial sector, the former chairman of Citi Nigeria, and the commissioner for economic planning and budget in Lagos. He studied managerial and administrative studies at Aston University in Birmingham, United Kingdom, and is now an alumnus. Additionally, he has a Master’s in Public Administration from the United States’ Harvard Kennedy School.

He took over as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), albeit in an acting capacity, on September 22, 2023. His tenure commenced on October 5, 2023 following confirmation of his appointment by the Senate.
